Our philosophy
THIS ISN’T TOURISM — IT’S A WAY OF LIFE
Transilvania 4x4 was born around a campfire in the Apuseni Mountains. Three friends, three trucks, one question: why aren’t more people driving these roads? Romania has some of the last truly wild terrain in Europe — ancient forests, shepherd trails that predate the Romans, mountain passes where your GPS simply gives up.
We started scouting routes, testing them wheel by wheel, and inviting small convoys to join us. What began as weekend drives became week-long expeditions. Word spread. The convoy grew. But we kept it small — because the best adventures happen when you know every driver by name.
Today, every expedition is still scouted by our founding crew. We don’t franchise, we don’t cut corners, and we never send anyone down a trail we haven’t driven ourselves. This is off-road at its most honest.

THE MOUNTAINS DON’T CARE ABOUT YOUR SCHEDULE.
THAT’S THE POINT.

AUTHENTIC TERRAIN

Authentic Terrain
Real Passes, Real Mud, Real Crossings
No manicured safari parks. These are real mountain passes, real mud, real river crossings — the same trails Romanian shepherds have walked for centuries.
SMALL CONVOYS

Small Convoys
Four Trucks, One Campfire
We cap every expedition at four to five vehicles. Enough to have each other’s backs on the trail, small enough to know everyone by name around the campfire.
SCOUTED BY HAND

Scouted by Hand
Every Trail Driven by Our Crew First
Every route is driven by our founding crew before a single guest sees it. We test every ford depth, every gradient, every campsite — no outsourcing, no guesswork.

WE DON’T SELL TRIPS.
WE SHARE OBSESSIONS.

From the founder
FOUNDER’S WORDS
Transilvania 4x4 wasn’t built from a business plan. It was born the way all the best things are — from obsession. The obsession of a kid who grew up watching his grandfather navigate shepherd trails in an old ARO, wondering what was over the next ridge.
I spent fifteen years behind the wheel on Romania’s toughest terrain. River crossings at dawn. Mechanical breakdowns in places with no mobile signal. Nights sleeping in the truck because the trail was too steep to pitch a tent. And every single time, I thought: more people need to see this.
One thing has always been clear to me: the bond between driver, machine, and these ancient mountains is something you can’t manufacture. You can only create the conditions for it. That’s what we do — small convoys, hand-scouted routes, no shortcuts.
